Father wants probe into Sungai Buloh prison son’s death

SUNGAI BULOH, 6 Nov 2017:

A contractor is seeking the authorities to reopen investigation into the death of his son, an inmate at the Sungai Buloh prison, who died at the Sungai Buloh Hospital last Monday due to chest infection.

Ong Ah Chew, 61, said he was shocked when the Sungai Buloh Prison called him to inform about his son’s death.

He said his son, Ong Kok Leong, 34, was in prison since 2012 to serve an eight-year imprisonment for a drug related offence and that when he last visited his son last August, Kok Leong looked healthy.

Ah Chew said there was also no mention by the prison authority that his son was  ill or suffering from any illnesses.

“But, when I went to Sungai Buloh Hospital, I was informed that my son died due to chest infection,” he told reporters after lodging a report at the Sungai Pelong police station yesterday.

Meanwhile, Sungai Buloh district police chief Supt S. Somu, when contacted, confirmed having received the report.
