PUTRAJAYA, 2 Aug 2017:
The Election Commission (EC) today dismissed talk that the next general election will be held on Oct 13, saying the date was mentioned in a viral video clip – purely for training and simulation purposes.
Chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said the date was mentioned during a training and simulation session at a briefing for Kelantan returning officers and assistant returning officers in Kota Bharu on July 31.
“The EC wishes to clarify that the date is not the actual date. As such, the EC hopes that all quarters will not believe talk that the date for the 14th General Election has been determined,” he said in a statement.
Mohd Hashim said the EC was disappointed over the action of the irresponsible individual who had recorded the session and circulated the video clip on social media, thus causing confusion among the people.
The video clip, of 39-second duration, showed a man announcing that the general election will be held on Oct 13 this year.
Mohd Hashim said the briefing for all returning officers and assistant returning officers was being held all over the country since early this year as part of the EC preparation for the next general election.
