Deported Filipino caught robbing Tawau store

TAWAU, 14 Nov 2017:

Police have detained a 37-year-old illegal immigrant who tried to rob a convenience store at Jalan Kuhara here at midnight.

District police chief, ACP Fadil Marsus said the suspect – wearing a mask and helmet – had barged into the store and pointed a samurai sword at the counter staff while demanding for cash.

However, a police team on crime prevention patrol happened to be in the area and saw the incident.

They rushed into the store within a minute and shouted: “Police!” But the suspect would not cooperate – forcing the personnel to use minimal aggression to accost him, said Fadil.

Police seized a sword, screwdriver and face mask, he said in a statement today.

Fadil said Investigations revealed the suspect also tested positive for syabu, had a previous conviction record for drugs and illegal entry and was deported to the Philippines in 2006, under Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
