College deputy principal nabbed for probe into student supply contract

KUALA LUMPUR,26  Jan 2018: 

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained the deputy principal of Kuala Kubu Bharu Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Selangor – over alleged abuse of power in awarding a contract to supply student essential items.

The 48-year-old suspect was picked up when she turned up at the Selangor MACC office yesterday evening to have her statement recorded.

Also detained were her 24-year-old son and a 40-year-old company owner, when the duo turned up at the Selangor MACC office for the same purpose.

According to MACC sources, all three were arrested between 4.30pm and 7pm.

They said the deputy principal was alleged to have misused her power by awarding the supply contract of the essential items worth about RM79,000, via direct negotiations.

The sources said the woman, who was also Kuala Kubu Bharu MRSM co-curricular activities deputy principal, was alleged to have committed the offence between 2016 and 2017.

“She was suspected to have awarded the contract to supply students’ essential items to her son, via a company owned by his friend.”

The trio are being held to facilitate investigations under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias ​​Salim confirmed the arrests, saying the three suspects would be remanded today.

He said investigations were initiated following public information.
