Bully driver with machete given 5 years jail sentence, caning

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 Dec 2017:

A banner installer was sentenced to five years’ jail and given one stroke of the rotan by the Ampang sessions court here yesterday, on a charge of carrying a machete in public in January.

Judge Syafeera Mohd Said meted out the sentence on R. Iswaran, 33, after he changed his plea to guilty of possessing a dangerous weapon in a public place, namely an 87cm-long machete.

The court then ordered him to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest on Jan 8.

Iswaran committed the offence below Block BG of an apartment in Jalan Pandan Indah 5/20, Ampang Jaya here at 10.40pm, on Jan 8 under Section 6 (1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.

According to the facts of the case, a man was chatting with his family in the parking lot of his apartment block when suddenly a car driven by Iswaran sped towards them, hitting the man.

Iswaran got out of the vehicle while brandishing a machete and saying that by evening, one of  the victim’s family members would die. He then got into the car and drove away.

The victim – who sustained injuries on the left leg and right hand – did not know why the armed man had acted the way he did as he did not have any problems with the individual.
