PUTRAJAYA, 31 March 2018:
The Energy Commission (ST) has instructed three importers to dispose of electrical equipment that have failed to comply with certain conditions – including not having ST-Sirim safety labels.
Electrical Safety Regulation director Mohd Elmi Anas said it involved 10 built-in ovens, four front load washing & drying machines and one range hood unit – with total market value exceeding RM100,000.
All these electrical equipment were destroyed at their respective warehouses in Puchong, Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam, Selangor, he said.
“All importers of electrical equipment need to obtain a Certificate of Approval and comply with the conditions set out in the certificate before bringing in any electrical equipment to the country,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He said the built-in oven brought into the country from Italy by Kosion Trading (M) Sdn Bhd through Port Klang failed the consignment test conducted by Sirim – after it was found that one of the main components of the equipment was not listed in the safety test report submitted to ST when applying for a Certificate of Approval.
Meanwhile, the front load washing & drying machine imported from Italy by Signature Obicorp Sdn Bhd failed the test due to the difference in components in the sample of the equipment compared to the Test Report, while the range hoods imported by BSH Home Appliances Sdn Bhd from Germany failed to be verified at the warehouse owned by the importer.
Mohd Elmi said electrical equipment which failed consignment tests and did not have safety or energy efficiency labels from ST are not allowed to be sold in the local market and had to be returned to the country of origin, or disposed off.
