Bauxite mining to resume in Pahang?

KUANTAN, 28 Feb 2018:

The Pahang State Development Corporation (PKNP) has been appointed as the main agent and trustee of the primary mining licence (PML) for the bauxite mining project in Bukit Goh and Bukit Kuantan here.

The matter was revealed by Sungai  Lembing assemblyman Datuk Md Sohaimi Mohamed Shah during a dialogue session with Felda Bukit Goh settlers over the bauxite mining project yesterday.

As the coordinator, he said PKNP would issue an agreement to be signed by landowners to allow bauxite mining activities to be carried out by appointed contractors.

Md Sohaimi said the project involved an area of 1,200ha and 300 landowners – of whom 132 of them had signed the agreement.

“Settlers whose land contained bauxite and are not bound by any agreement, can sign an agreement with PKNP if they want to engage in the bauxite mining activities.

“Those whose land are being cultivated or have been abandoned but are bound by an agreement, must have the consent of the previous contractors, or may refer to PKNP to evaluate the previous agreement.”
