KUALA LUMPUR, 28 April 2020:
Police arrested 30 Chinese nationals for allegedly promoting online gambling activities during a raid at an apartment in Cheras, Kajang, here, today.
Selangor Secret Societies, Gambling and Vice (D7) Division staff officer DSP Azmi Shukor said 24 men and six women between the ages of 20 and 35 were detained during the raid at 2.30pm.
He said the syndicate was mostly targeting victims in China using the WeChat application.
“The syndicate was also detected promoting online gambling based in Malaysia using the website www.npro11.com,” he told reporters at the scene.
Azmi said investigations found the syndicate had been carrying out the activities from two rented apartment units for the past one month, while the staff concerned were found not carrying any valid travel documents besides misusing their social visit passes.
“Police also seized 30 laptops and 76 mobile phones in the raid.”
