PUTRAJAYA, 25 April 2020:
The government has decided to place Selayang Baru in Gombak, Selangor under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from today until May 3.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the decision which was made on advice of the Ministry of Health (MoH) involves six parcels, namely:
- Zone A : Jalan Indah 3 and Jalan Indah 5A, Selayang Indah
- Zone B : Jalan Indah 21, Lembah Indah, Selayang Baru
- Zone C : Jalan Besar Selayang Baru, Jalan 1 and Jalan Indah 21, Selayang Baru
- Zone D : Jalan 3, 5, 7 and 9, Selayang Baru
- Zone E : Jalan 2, 4, 6 and 8, Selayang Baru
- Zone F : Blok A, B and C, Selayang Makmur
“The seventh EMCO is carried out to contain Covid-19 infection, taking into account the probability of Covid-19 transmission from Pasar Harian Kuala Lumpur and Pasar Borong Kuala Lumpur (Kuala Lumpur daily and wholesale markets),” he said at the MCO daily media briefing today.
He said the EMCO would enable detection activity to be carried out and all residents should remain calm and give full cooperation to MoH personnel and adhere to directives issued by authorities.
Ismail Sabri said he was also informed by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun that food aid had been distributed in the area this morning.
“Residents who need help or have any queries can contact Gombak district disaster hotline at 03-6120 1092, 03-6126 1500 or the district police headquarters’ control centre at 03-6126 2247, 03-6126 2240.”
The government had previously, placed Pusat Bandar Utara and the Selayang wholesale market surrounding areas under EMCO from April 20 until May 3.
The EMCO is also imposed in five other areas until April 28, namely:
- Kampung Dato Ibrahim Majid and Bandar Baharu Dato Ibrahim Majid, Simpang Renggam, Johor
- Kampung Sungai Lui, Hulu Langat, Selangor
- Menara City One, Kuala Lumpur.
- Bangunan Selangor Mansion and Malayan Mansion, Kuala Lumpur
- Masjid India in Kuala Lumpur and surrounding areas including Jalan Munshi Abdullah, Jalan Dang Wangi, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Melaka and Jalan Ampang.
He said the government’s decision to require individuals returning from overseas to be quarantined has been successful in curbing the spread of Covid-19 and preventing imported clusters being created.
Ismail Sabri said to date, 131 people who underwent compulsory quarantine were found to be positive for Covid-19.
“Imagine if we had allowed these 131 people to go home and undergo self-quarantine, it would have created new clusters which would have spread not just to their families but also the surrounding community.
“So our decision to enforce compulsory quarantine on people who returned from overseas was correct.”
Ismail Sabri said since April 3, a total of 19,945 Malaysians who returned from overseas had to undergo quarantine; while since April 17, a total of 6,778 individuals completed their compulsory quarantine and were allowed to go home.
He said as of April 24, a total of 209 quarantine centres were operating, with 16,633 individuals undergoing compulsory quarantine.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said, the government will continue to enforce border control especially along rat trails to stop illegal immigrants from breaking through national borders, in a move to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country, especially involving imported clusters.
“The government remains steadfast in ensuring that the borders and the country’s sovereignty are not violated, so surveillance to patrol the borders including at rat trails will be intensified.
“Since the MCO was implemented, 84 people have been arrested for entering the country through the rat trails.”
