PETALING JAYA, 7 April 2020:

Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the man’s body was found covered in blood near a staircase on the second floor of the apartment block at about 1am.

“Police investigations found wound marks on the head and neck of the man, aged 25. We have obtained information from his family members as well as witnesses,” he told reporters at the scene.

Nik Ezanee said police were now hunting down a suspect, believed to have been the victim’s schoolmate, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

“The cause of the incident and the weapon used are still being investigated,” he said, adding that the victim’s body had been sent to the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for a post-mortem.

In IPOH, April a foreign fisherman was arrested on suspicion of murdering his colleague aboard a boat at Bagan Parit 4, Sungai Sumun, Hilir Perak, yesterday morning.

Hilir Perak district police chief ACP Mohd Marzukhi Mohd Mokhtar said in the 11.20am incident, the 40-year-old man was believed to have used a machete to assault the victim, who is also a foreigner, before pushing the latter into the river.

“The body of the victim is still being traced with the help of a team from the Hutan Melintang Fire and Rescue Department,” he said in a statement last night.

Mohd Marzukhi said the suspect was detained in a nearby area at around noon. “The motive for the incident is still being investigated and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.”

Meanwhile, oOnline gambling activities have been on the rise during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said.

Without revealing details of arrests he said the syndicates targeted people who were confined to their homes throughout the MCO.

“Instead of taking a break while the MCO is being enforced, I understand that these people are resorting to online gambling,” he told a special press conference in Bukit Aman here.

Abdul Hamid said stern action would be taken against any individual found engaging in internet gambling in their homes.

In another development, Abdul Hamid also revealed there has been an increase in cigarette smuggling believed to be operating through food delivery services.

“Cigarette smuggling became rampant after the premises selling cigarettes ran out of stock.

“They (smugglers) are using the food delivery services. As such, I have directed those manning the roadblocks to inspect these food delivery vehicles.”

Abdul Hamid added some irresponsible parties have also been found misusing the food delivery logos to enable them to go out.
