KUALA LUMPUR, 29 Jan 28 2019:
Two female senior citizens were believed to have died from breathing difficulties while waiting to get free food coupons at the Plaza Pudu ICC, here yesterday afternoon.
Dang Wangi District Police Chief, ACP Shaharuddin Abdullah said during the incident, both victims – identified as Law Ion Nang, 78 and Ah Poh, 85 – were reported to be pushing among more than 1,000 senior citizens who were trying to get the food coupons at about noon.
“Both victims were a section of the Chinese senior citizens who had lined up with other senior citizens to get the food coupons. And because of the large number of senior citizens who were present, the two victims together with five others had experienced breathing difficulties,”he said in a statement.
However, Shaharuddin said initial inspection on the two bodies of the senior citizens – who were found lying on the ground floor of the plaza – found no indication of any criminal element involved.
He said the giving of the food coupons to the Chinese senior citizens, organised by the federation of traders and hawkers at the ICC Pudu, only provided 200 coupons although the number of senior citizens present had exceeded the target with about 1,000 people present.
He said the case was classified as sudden death and the bodies of the two senior citizens had been sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for autopsy.
