144 safety violation notices issued to tahfiz schools, orphanages – so far

TANJONG KARANG, 30 Sept 2017: 

A total of 144 notices have been issued by the Fire and Rescue Department on 76 tahfiz schools and orphanages for failing to comply with safety standards set.

Minister of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Tan Sri Noh Omar said the issuance of the notice was the result of inspections conducted on 213 tahfiz schools and orphanages nationwide.

“Owners of tahfiz schools and orphanages must comply with the notice order and if they fail to do so they can be fined or jailed upon conviction.

“This inspection began on Sept 23 and the department is expected to complete it nationwide within a month,” he said after visiting eight tahfiz scools and orphanages in the district here yesterday with Fire and Rescue director general Datuk Wan Mohd Nor Ibrahim.

Meanwhile in Ipoh, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) yesterday signed a memorandum of agreement with Perak  Islamic and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) to improve the collection of tithe in the state.

UPSI deputy vice-chancellor (research & international)  Prof Datuk Dr Noraini Idris said through the two-year collaboration – UPSI as the consultant – would help MAIPk to conduct a study and research on potential of tithe collection.

“The study titled ‘ The Potential Of Tithe Collection in Perak Darul Ridzuan’, UPSI can identify the potential of collection and the prospects to increase the collection” she said in a statement. MAIPk contributed RM300,000 to UPSI to conduct the study and research.

Separately in KUALA TERENGGANU, mosques in Terengganu with extra funds especially in the urban areas have been asked to help promote commerce to advance the economy of Muslims.

State Communcation andMultimedia and Special Functions Committee chairman Ghazali Taib suggested self-service laundrettes and car wash centres be established for the purpose.

“Not only the mosque managements will gain but they will also he  helping residents in their areas especially those in need. As for the users of the services, they can learn religious matters while waiting for their cars to be washed or the wash cycle.”

He added that because the services will be provided in the compounds of the mosque, non-Muslims could also utilise them.
