KUALA LUMPUR, 1 Oct 2020:
A man was sentenced to 14 days in jail by the magistrate’s court here today for breaking into the closed-circuit television (CCTV) control room at the Dayabumi Complex.
Magistrate Mohamad Aizat Abdul Rahim meted out the punishment to Ahmad Solleh Jaafar, 33, after he pleaded guilty to the charge and ordered the accused to serve his sentence from the date of his arrest on Monday Sept 28.
Asked by the court why he committed the offence, the unemployed man said that he was hungry.
Mohamad Aizat said: “If you are hungry, you should ask for it properly and not to break into the control room. The control room is not a diner. How did you know there was food in there, you worked there?”
Ahmad Solleh replied: “There was food … I didn’t work there.”
He was accused of breaking into the CCTV control room at the Dayabumi Complex, Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin here at 10.10am, on Sept 28 and he was charged under Section 448 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail term of six months or a fine of up to RM5,000 or both, if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutor Illya Syaheedah Mohd Razif pressed for just punishment to serve as a lesson while Ahmad Solleh, who was not represented, did not make any appeal to the court.
