PETALING JAYA, 17 Nov 2017:
Tesco Stores (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd is giving out 55,000 exclusive discount vouchers to 61 schools in Peninsular Malaysia in conjunction with the ‘Bijak Segak Kembali Ke Sekolah’ campaign until Dec 6.
Tesco Malaysia chief executive officer Paul Ritchie said the vouchers would help students prepare for their school needs and support the initiative of the Tesco-PINTAR Foundation School Adoption programme – which began November last year.
“Around 55,000 vouchers will be given to students in our adopted schools and it will allow them to use the vouchers to buy pencils, note books, and other needs for the 2018 school session.
“We understand that back to school expenses are significant for families and we take the opportunity to help them.”
Meanwhile in Kota Bharu, the Bank Rakyat Foundation is considering increasing the number of students under its sponsorship through its Convertible Education Financing (PPBU) this year.
Bank Rakyat Foundation’s board of trustees member Saiful Yazan Sulaiman said the foundation received about 24,000 applications for PPBU this year.
“It is a large number and we are in the process of screening them to pick 1,000 qualified applicants. The final result of the screening will be released in the middle of December.
“We will try to increase the number of students receiving sponsorship via PPBU,” he told reporters at the closing of the 2017 Orang Asli Students School Sports Championship here yesterday.
The five-day championship, which started on Sunday, saw participation from 600 participants from Orang Asli schools throughout the country.
Kelantan emerged as the overall champion for the second consecutive year after emerging tops in athletics, football, hand ball and sepak takraw.
Saiful said Yayasan Bank Rakyat allocates RM200,000 for the championship every year since 2014.
