ALOR SETAR, 30 Jan 2019:
The Road Safety Department of Malaysia (JKJR) has urged the public not to use the seat belt alarm stopper clip in their cars while they drive or riding it as it could jeopardise their safety.
Kedah JKJR director Chan Pei Hong said although the car accessory is new in the state and there have been no official complaints about it, a warning should be given early about it to prevent any unwanted incidents happening to road users.
“The seat belt alarm stopper clip is an accessory which is fixed to the seat belt to stop the alarm sounding in the car if the driver does not use the seat belt, so it is bought by drivers who do not like to use the seat belts.
“However, they should know that in case of accidents, the accessory does not protect them and if they do not use the seat belt, they could be through out onto the road and die at the scene.”
She added that the accessory could encourage the habit of not wearing the seat belt while driving or riding a vehicle.
