KUCHING, 16 May 2018:
The Sarawak Education Department has declared Thursday (May 17) and Friday (May 18) as additional public holidays.
Its state director Rakayah Maadon said the department complied with the directive issued by the state government – which announced the two additional public holidays in conjunction with the just concluded 14th general election (GE14).
“All schools will be on holiday on Thursday and Friday, all school activities will be postponed to next week.”
The state Education Department, in a statement, said all education personnel, including school staff are asked to adhere to the directive and reorganise the programmes to be held on that dates.
The question of schools statewide applying for a replacement or a school day did not arise, she added.
On May 9, Malaysia’s Chief Secretary to the Government Ali Hamsa announced that May 10 and May 11 were declared additional public holidays but these were normal working days in Sarawak.
