SHAH ALAM, 11 Dec 2018:
Worldwide Holdings Bhd and Western Power Clean Energy Sdn Bhd have inked a deal to start a garbage disposal system that incorporates a waste-to-energy (WTE) incinerator – which will be the biggest and most modern in Kuala Selangor.
The facility will be built at a cost of RM500 million on roughly six hectares near the Jeram sanitary landfill in Kuala Selangor.
Expected to be ready in 2020, it will lessen the demand for landfill space while supporting the government in its ambition to increase renewable energy output to 20% by 2025.
Worldwide group chief executive officer Datin Paduka Norazlina Zakaria said the facility can process up to 1,200 metric tonnes of solid waste to produce 25MW of power a day.
“The waste is used as fuel to heat a furnace which produces steam to run a turbine that generates electricity.”
