Oppo debuts smartwatch: From shower to sleep

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 Sept 2020:

Joining the fray of smartwatches, Oppo has opted to stick to what already works well in this consumer tech space and added a few tweaks for a decent device – which it urges you to keep on 24/7, regardless of to keep track of your daily activities, even if you’re in the shower or just asleep.

Launching two versions simultaneously – running on Wear OS by Google and enhanced with Oppo’s own ColorOS 11 for the latest Android 11 experience – the Oppo Watch is available in Malaysia from Oct 3, with pre-orders starting today.

With its all-day lifestyle accessory approach, the Oppo Watch features a choice of dual-curved or rigid display within an aluminium alloy frame that can match your daily outfits just by snapping yourself in the mirror and choosing suitable watch faces from hundreds of options available.

The AMOLED screens capable of 500 nits promise clear display even in bright sunshine – with the 46mm variant offering 326 PPI pixel density on the 402 x 476 resolution display on the 1.91-inc screen while the 41mm variant offers 301 PPI with 320 x 360 resolution on a 1.6-inch face.

Most importantly, either the 430mAh (46mm) or 300mAh (41mm) watch battery power can easily sustain through 24 hours and with its built-in power-saver mode, battery life  can be extended to 21 (or 14 days for 41mm device) days while continuing to still track step counts, check notifications and measure your heart rate.

Coupled with Oppo Watch VOOC Flash Charging, you get up to 30% or up to 16 hours of battery life within 15 minutes – a full charge takes 75 minutes. So after a full day’s use, this recharge lets you take full advantage of the enhanced stock Android’s Dark Mode for bedtime browsing or just tune into the OPPO Relax 2.0 to create your own white noise mix for restful sleep.

Another point to note is that ColorOS 11 is also equipped with Three-Finger Translate powered by Google Lens, the first feature co-created by OPPO and Google. It captures and translates text through a simple screenshot taken with a three-finger gesture.

Apps-wise, you get the whole gamut of Wear OS fitness and other useful apps, with the device waterproofed up to 5 atmospheres (3 atmospheres for 41mm device) for swimming usage – but Oppo recommends potentially better experience when the smartwatch is paired with its latest Find X2 Pro Green Vegan Leather smartphone.

The Oppo Watch 41mm variant is priced at RM899, while the 46mm variant is priced at RM1,299. Customers who pre-order the device will receive 2 additional watch straps worth RM199. Also, the Oppo FindX2 Pro I bundle during the pre-order goes for RM5,399 instead of RM6,097.
