Only a third of RM500 PTPTN matching grants taken up

KANGAR, 22 Dec 2018:

The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) has urged parents with children aged between seven and 12 years to take advantage of the RM500 matching grant before the Dec 31 closing date.

PTPTN chairman Wan Saiful Wan Jan said fewer than 180,000 people had opened accounts to receive the grant, offered through the 1Malaysia National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN), although it was targeted for 500,000 people.

“Parents only need to make a RM500 deposit to open an account and the government will add a similar amount,” he told reporters after officiating the ‘Back To School’ shopping programme here yesterday.

Under the programme, the Perlis Welfare Foundation has allocated RM15,000 as school aid for 150 students, with each receiving RM100.
