More choice for vegans at Sunway Ramadan buffet

SUNWAY, 18 April 2018:

There will be more choice for vegetarians at the upcoming Ramadan buffet offered up at the Sunway Lagoon Resort and Spa’s Resort Café.

Adding two variations on the traditional kerabu dish selection are the banana blossom (jantung pisang) and long beans (kacang panjang), while new twists are offered up for the already extensive menu.

This feast is available from May 17 to June 14 – presented as the Jemput Makan gastronomic culinary adventure – taking you around Asia and Malaysia in 29 delicious days, and features over 400 authentic, nostalgic flavours and new mouthwatering recipes on a daily rotation.

Expect traditional indoor stations, and outdoor bazaar-style stalls stretching the gamut from grilled food to soups, to live-action cooking by the chefs that promises to be a feast for the senses.

Leading the brigade of over 40 chefs for the season is chef Mohamad Yatim, the Resort café’s sous chef tournant. Working closely with him to bring you the spectacular spread of perennial favourites are chef de cuisine Parthiban Nalliah, pastry chef Abdul Aziz Zaiddi Mansur and Middle Eastern chef Ahmed Lamiri.

With nine main food stations, you will not know where to start.

The Nasi station features 15 varieties of rice cooked in different styles. The must-try for the season is the Bamboo Briyani, but don’t forget the many other speciality rice dishes on the buffet rotation that include the Nasi Bukhari, Nasi Hujan Panas, Nasi Briyani Gum, Nasi Tomato, Nasi Kunyit Ayam, Nasi Minyak, Nasi Bukhara Buah Gajus, Nasi Ulam, and a selection of Middle Eastern dishes like  Nasi Mandi, Maqluba, Kabsa and Egyptian Kushari.

At the outdoor Bakar station, freshly marinated meat and seafood will be grilled on the spot for diners. At the Soup Station the café’s signature Sup Gearbox Turbo is back by popular demand and continues to be the restaurant’s must-have dish this year. Cooked over a slow fire for eight hours, the individual bone marrow – the prized ingredient – is served to diners from a large cauldron, providing both a visual feast and aromatic treat. Other soup varieties that diners can look forward to include the Soto Ayam, Tom Yam, Sup Campur and Lentil Soup.

The Golek station features a succulent whole lamb lovingly marinated overnight with almost 25 different local spices and mixed herbs such as old ginger, garlic, lemongrass, galangal, salt, masala, coriander, yoghurt, mint leaves and cumin powder before being slowly roasted for four hours.

The Noodle station will serve a wide variety of soup and gravy based noodles, including the Mee Rojak, Mee Bandung Sumatra, Nyonya Laksa Lemak, Laksa Johor, Prawn Mee, Dry Wonton Mee and Pan Mee, all served with flavourful broth.

If you like your meats or seafood in rich and spicy gravy, The Kawah station will serve your Gulai Utara Ikan Dengan Bendi, Gulai Tulang Rawan and Gulai Ayam Pedas to you in super-large cauldrons; while the Ulam-Ulaman Station will offer an assortment of over 20 local picks as well as pickled fruits which can be enjoyed with the wide selection of sambals and some Asian home-made dressings. Kerabu will also be a highlight in this station. Each day will also see a rotation of favourite Asian salads such as Pasembur, Gado-gado, Miang Kham, Som Tam, Pecal Jawa and Rojak Buah.

The Goreng station will have fried Malaysian and Middle Eastern tea time snacks and lastly, the Dessert station which will feature a wide range of durian specialities as well as traditional favourites. There is durian in everything: the ice cream, pudding, pengat, smoothie, ice kacang, cheesecake and even pizza!

One of the key highlights on the buffet is a popular dish in both Melaka and Johor, the Ekor Asam Pedas. The café’s chefs’ home-made version is oxtail in rich mouth-watering asam pedas gravy, the right combination of both spiciness and sourness, added with fresh tomatoes and lady’s fingers to give it more depth.

The buffet is priced at just RM98 nett per adult from May 17 until 23 and June 11 to 14. From May 24 to June 10, normal prices will apply – RM178 nett per adult, RM108 nett per senior citizen and RM98 nett per child (aged between 6 to 12 years old). The daily buffet runs from 6pm to 10.30pm.

And don’t forget the Hari Raya Aidilfitri weekend on June 15 and 16 for a celebration with family and friends. The buffet dinner price is RM98 nett per adult and RM68 nett per child; from 6.30pm to 10.30pm.
