SHAH ALAM, 6 Feb 2018:
An online vendor was fined RM14,000 by the sessions court here yesterday after she pleaded guilty to two counts of selling five years ago walkie-talkies that are not in compliance with the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000.
Wee Lee Boon, 35, made the plea after the charge was read to her before judge Ahmad Azhari Abdul Hamid. She also paid the fine.
Wee, through her company Syarikat B Plus Trading, was charged with selling two pairs of Bellsouth T-388 walkie-talkies and a pair of TYT UVF8D walkie-talkie via a link to an online shopping website in 2013.
Payments for the items were made through online banking service at SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd, Section 2 here, at 6.44pm, on 10 Sept 2013.
The charge, under Regulation 16 (1) (b) of the Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000, carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or six months’ jail, or both, upon conviction.
Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission prosecuting officer Norhani Mohamad Adzhar prosecuted while Wee was not represented.
