PUTRAJAYA, 14 Nov 2017:
The active involvement of students in schools – including implementing more than 2,000 Hour of Code segments – has placed Malaysia in second place out of 180 countries that took part in the programme.
Deputy Education Minister Senator Datuk Chong Sin Woon said Malaysia was only one rank below America after the programme was held for two weeks since Oct 30 – with about 90,000 students from more than 1,000 schools taking part.
“The response has been very encouraging and what is even better is that we are right behind America as the country which is most active in conducting the Hour of Code programme which is an application that is student-friendly and easy to follow.
“The response from students has been very good, which means that we are on the right track in preparing the younger generation, to face the new world such as with the digital economy, in the future,” he told reporters after observing the programme held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Presint 14 (1) here yesterday.
The Hour of Code is an awareness programme aimed at giving students early exposure and increasing their awareness on programming records and computer science.
Chong said with the encouraging response, the programme is expected to be continued next year with the activities to be held in the middle of the year compared to after the final exams this year.
