The relaunch of the 1Malaysia People’s Shop (KR1M) as KR1M 2.0 with some improvements and reforms to the old scheme brings delight to residents here.
Prior to this, the residents were looking forward to the reopening of such stores – which they described could help reduce their burden in obtaining daily necessities at a reasonable price coupled with the rising cost of living.
For G. Saraswathym, 32, from Taman Temerloh Jaya, the government’s move to launch the KR1M 2.0 as promised brought relief to the people especially the lower and middle income groups.
“I used to go to KR1M on regular basis to buy basic necessities as they were cheaper there, even though they were not branded goods. So, when the government launched KR1M 2.0 with several improvements such as by offering branded items at lower prices compared to other shops, this is a blessing for us.
“It also shows that the government is always concerned about the problems faced by the people,” she said after the launch of KR1M 2.0 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday.
Another resident, Ah Tong Hoi, 55, said KR1M 2.0 would definitely provide a better choice to the people who needed a place to get basic necessities at lower prices.
“If we can buy at lower prices, people especially in the rural areas will not be burdened with the rising prices of goods, especially as the Chinese New Year celebration is drawing near.”
Private sector worker Norlaili Fakeh Abd Samad, 68, opined the low price offered at KR1M should not compromise the quality of the items sold.
“Before this, it was good that we could buy basic necessities at a cheaper price but the quality of the items was relatively low and when the government announced that this time around branded goods will also be sold cheaply (at KR1M), this is indeed a good news.
“All of us should be grateful to the government as it always strive to help ease the burden of the people.”
Separately, a total of 3,500 units of affordable houses will be built for the Malaysian Armed Forces personnel under the SASaR (One Personnel, One House) project scheduled to be launched in March.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said the initiative, which is the result of a collaboration forged between the Federal Territories Ministry and the Defence Ministry, would enable military personnel to own a house in the city.
“Each house, measuring between 1,000 and 1,200 sq ft, is priced between RM150,000 and RM250,000.”
Tengku Adnan said the ministry had also approved an allocation of RM100,000 for the expansion of the school field of Sekolah Kebangsaan Pengkalan Tentera Darat and RM150,000 for the construction of a fustal arena in the Sungai Besi army camp for the benefit of its personnel and their family members.
