TAWAU, 15 Nov 2018:
Malaysians are advised to download the MyCuaca application for free through Google Play and the App Store for updates on disasters including earthquakes and tsunamis in the country.
Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (Mestecc) deputy secretary-general (Science, Technology and Innovation) associate professor Ramzah Dambul said the application developed by the Malaysian Meteorological Department was a fast platform for society to receive information on disasters other than current weather conditions.
“The application has long been developed but the public’s awareness to use it is low, and, so far only 95,000 users have downloaded MyCuaca compared to some 30 million people in the country.”
She said this when launching a public awareness programme on the risk of earthquake and tsunami and the 2018 tsunami practical training here yesterday.
Meanwhile, Ramzah said that according to Malaysian geologists, disasters such as earthquake and tsunami would take place again after 20 to 30 years.
