KUALA LUMPUR, 13 March 2018:
The new package by ride-hailing service Grab officially unveiled today – GrabVarsity – aimed especially at university students – will also help ensure undergraduates driving for supplementary don’t get driven away and ignore their studies.
Malaysia country head Sean Goh said discussions are now taking place with the three universities already partnered for this package – Universiti Malaya, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia and University Malaysia Perlis – on how best to ensure undergrads should be reminded of their study focus via the app.
And despite the GrabVarsity package focus on undergraduates, Goh said drivers must still meet the minimum requirement of being Malaysian MyKad holders – which means foreign students still won’t be able to drive with Grab here.
“But they can take advantage of all the other benefits with GrabVarsity, just not the driving for supplementary income part.”
Apart from the driving opportunity, the GrabVarsity package also offers:
- Rewards: A university student-based reward programme with exclusive, curated benefits that are more relevant and interesting to them. These rewards include offerings from Shopee Malaysia, iflix, Photobook Worldwide, Honor, Digi and Pizza Hut.
- Transport partner: To ease traffic congestion within and around the university by establishing designated pick-up and drop-off areas whilst providing exclusive promo codes for events such as convocations, sports day, or festivals.
- Hands-on learning opportunities: Students can apply for apprenticeship placements at Grab Malaysia and have the opportunity to work and learn from the best in developing their professional skills for the future.
Goh also said the aim is to extend this new GrabVarsity package to all universities in Malaysia – both public and private – and this package is in addition to existing offers for students.
