Fast away the old year passes

SUNWAY, 6 Nov 2019:

The end-of-year festivities – the greatest, most magical time of the year – are upon us. And if you’re looking to mark this time in a big way, there is only one place to be for the best in food, drink, celebration and merriment: Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa.

Not only have their talented chefs come up with the perfect mix of the traditional and new for Christmas and New Year indulging, but the hotel will be decked with live poinsettias, Christmas tree, wreaths, baubles and garlands; alongside a ferris wheel, carousel and hot air balloon, turning the main lobby into a sparkly Christmassy carnival come Nov 29  as “The Greatest Christmas Show” kicks off the season.

Inspired by the spectacular world of the Greatest Showman, the Christmas lighting ceremony will spread the warm holiday spirit as carols fill the lobby; and glasses clink in stylish toasting at the Lobby Lounge because the annual ‘12 drinks of Christmas’ event is back, featuring 12 refreshing festive concoctions: 6 new mocktails (RM22 nett) and 6 cocktails (RM35 nett).

At The Resort Café, executive chef Peter Lee and his team have struck the right match of classic Christmas fare with a little something different. The must-haves on any Christmas table include goodies from the carving stations – roasted brined turkey with dried fruit stuffing, grilled lamb shoulder with pommery mustard jus, slow-cooked duck breast with truffle jus.

Then there is the slow-roasted wagyu beef striploin, oven-roasted wagyu beef karubi and braised and glazed wagyu ribs; all accompanied by perfectly roasted beetroot, carrots and potatoes, and a divine crushed black pepper and truffle mustard sauce on the side.

At the live risotto station, chef will whip up a deliciously creamy, pesto-based risotto with your choice of smoked duck breast, sundried roma tomatoes, parmesan cheese, mushrooms, clam or beef bacon in wickedly rich Australian butter.

Upping the ante on the show-stopping centrepiece this year is the Seafood Tower of all sorts of the freshest seafood : oysters, scallops, abalone clams, mussel, tiger prawns, squid, flower crabs, baby octopus, white and bamboo clams and white tuna sashimi.

The Middle Eastern twist sees whole lamb on briyani rice and a shawarma station with beef rather than the usual chicken! Other highlights include the seared salmon fillet on mussel-saffron broth, baked tiger prawns with garlic butter and mozzarella cheese, white bean casserole with smokey beef bacon and eggplant parmigiana; and at the dessert table, time-honoured sweets like raspberry eclairs, mango compote panna cotta, tiramisu, bread pudding with pumpkin, dresdner stollen, chocolate and red velvet Yule Log Cake, Mini Minced Meat Pies and a Banana Split and Crepe Suzette corner.
