KUALA LUMPUR, 1 Dec 2017:
Lack of love and attention from their parents are among the reasons youths are prone to social problems.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said most of today’s parents were too busy at work that they sometimes neglected their children – to the extent of causing them to suffer negative emotional effects.
“Some youths have met me to ask for my opinion on how they can get their parents to pay attention and spend time with them. This shows that all they want is only love,” she said after attending the forum on “Youths at Risk – Resolving is Better than Judging” here yesterday.
Taking the example of the religious school in Datuk Keramat – which caught fire and claimed the lives of 23 people in September – Rohani said some of the suspects were from troubled families.
“They are deprived of love and attention, and they ended up committing crime. This tragedy should be a wake-up call. We have to stop pointing fingers and look for the causes.”
