The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) has expressed satisfaction with the incentives for civil servants as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak when tabling the 2018 Budget in parliament.
President Datuk Azih Muda said overall the incentives demonstrated a good start for the civil servants with families and would have a long term effect in family building.
“Even though we asked for more, but this is good enough for now.”
Azih also lauded the government’s willingness to extend retirement benefits for those who retired due to health conditions and extend the medical benefits to the parents of retired civil servants.
During the budget speech, Najib announced that all civil servants are set to receive a one-off payment of RM1,500, of which RM1,000 would be paid in early January 2018, while the balance of RM500 during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
He also announced increased maternity leave entitlement from 300 days to 360 days along the women’s time in civil service, subject to a maximum of 90 days a year.
Najib also announced that public servants would be allowed cash award in lieu of accumulated leave of more than 150 days to be taken during the retirement year and that the special leave for education officers be increased from seven to 10 days a year.
Also announced by the prime minister were unrecorded leave of up to seven days to be provided to public servants throughout their service for the purpose of umrah and flexible working hour one day a week for Grade UD54 and above medical specialists who had served a minimum of four years and meet certain requirements.
