The shared joy of the Chinese New Year celebration held at Masjid Al-Muhsinin, in Taman Danau Desa here yesterday reflected the spirit of goodwill and harmony among the country’s communities.
The event organised by the Muslim Welfare Organisation Malaysia (Perkim) had attracted around 500 visitors and the bond among residents was further strengthen through various activities held.
Perkim vice-president Datuk Dr Mustapha Ma Abdullah said it was the second time the celebration was hosted at the mosque after 12 years.
“There are many mosques that are also holding Chinese New Year celebrations such as this, and even non-governmental organisations have also carried out open day events at mosques.
“Indirectly, this encourages our non-Muslim friends to come to mosques and do goodwill activities together.”
During the celebration, attendees were given a tour of the mosque by its imam who also provided an explanation on basic matters, such as prayer direction.
They were also served with various delicacies while being entertained by a dragon dance performance and participating in a variety of activities such as a lucky draw, health examination, Tai Chi exercise session, telematch, forum and a hand-pulled noodle demonstration.
