BRT service due to operate in Iskandar from 2021

ISKANDAR PUTERI, 9 Oct 2017:

The Rapid Transit Bus System (BRT), which will further spur the growth of Iskandar Malaysia and its surrounding areas is expected to become operational in 2021.

Iskandar Malaysia BRT director Rudyanto Azhar said at this stage, BRT would refine the design of the bus, inter-mediate bus lines and BRT stations.

“Currently, we go through the process of detailing the designs, then we will look at the intermediate bus lines and direct services which are expected to be completed by June next year.

“The first phase encompassed 51km, 39 stations and three terminals which are expected to be operational in 2021, so the people of Johor, specifically around Iskandar Malaysia will begin to see (construction and planning) on the road from 2019,” he said when met at the BRT exhibition at the Progressive Johor Expo in Kota Iskandar here yesterday.

Rudyanto said the BRT is different from existing public buses as it has its own roadway which cannot be used by other vehicles, ensuring it is faster and more efficient.

In addition, the use of BRT could reduce traffic congestion, other than having a fixed travel time and also using environment-friendly technology, he added.
