Over 1,000 Malaysian flags collection by ex-serviceman

TANAH MERAH, 20 Aug 2017:

For the love of the country, an ex-serviceman has collected approximately 1,000 Jalur Gemilang in various sizes – which he put on display at his house and on his van all year round and not just during the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.

Muhammed Nasir Mustapha, 58, said the hobby of collecting the flag began 17 years ago after he was deeply saddened and disappointed upon seeing one of it being left unwanted by the roadside.

“As an ex-serviceman who had lived during the communist era, I feel extremely proud to collect the flag as it symbolises the free, independent and peaceful country we live in today,” he said when met at his home in Kemahang.

Muhammed Nasir, who is known as Pak Do Nasir, also said he was once described as insane for his hobby and for decorating his van using 60 pieces of Jalur Gemilang, but that did not dampen his patriotic spirit.

In fact, he had also taught all his children and the children in the village to always respect the national flag.

“They must respect the flag, and be proud of the country’s development, as well as the peaceful and harmonious life they are enjoying today.”
