Swap used cooking oil for discounted gas tank delivery

SERDANG, 15 June 2021:

Taking an innovative approach to add value to its services, BeliGas Malaysia is now offering to collect used cooking oil from homes and commercial kitchens for recycling – to avoid this unwanted waste from being poured down drains and causing pollution.

Better yet, founder and managing director Suthan Mookaiah said BeliGas Malaysia is also offering to pay for the used cooking oil and using this amount as a discount on the price of a new gas tank delivered to these premises.

“We subsidise the gas price for every litre you donate with BeliGas Malaysia. Collection can be done at your outlet, and we subsidise immediately on the point of collection.”

He said this subsidy or discount is offered up to 10 litres of used cooking for individual homeowners and capped at 100 litres for commercial kitchens.

“To take advantage of our offer, you place the gas tank order in our BeliGas Malaysia app. Then you can select the delivery time and finalise the gas tank cost as you’re given the chance to subsidise it with the used cooking oil donation.

“Our riders deliver the gas tank and then verify the final used cooking oil donation, the volume will be confirmed and then tallied to give final discount on the gas tank order.

“As an example, we took payment of five litres of used oil and charged only RM20.60 for a 14kg cooking gas tank, delivered to the customer’s doorstep.”

The collected used cooking oil is then accumulated before being sent to an independent refinery to be converted into biodiesel.

“We use some of the biodiesel produced to power our delivery trucks and the rest can be sold. This initiative just started recently and once we have enough volume of used cooking oil being collected, we may even set up our own biodiesel facility if it’s commercially viable.”

As to how BeliGas Malaysia came up with this initiative, Suthan said it was originally aimed at how the firm could help its customers – especially food outlet owners and operators impacted by Covid-19 restrictions with the latest Movement Control Order impact on business operations.

The BeliGas service is now offered mainly within Selangor, covering 192 areas – including Ampang, Balakong, Batang Kali, Cheras, Damansara, Kajang, Kelana Jaya, Klang, Petaling Jaya, Puchong, Rawang, Serendah, Shah Alam, Semenyih, Serendah, Subang, Sunway and USJ.
