The Road Transport Department (RTD), through its driving school licensing committee, will always monitor fees imposed by driving schools for the courses to obtain a driving licence in the country.
Deputy director-general (operations) Datuk Wan Ahmad Uzir Wan Sulaiman yesterday said any driving schools found to have imposed fees that were deemed unreasonable would face stern action, including cessation of their operations.
Wan Ahmad Uzir said the ceiling fees for the courses to get a driving licence in the country had been fixed and higher fees might due to the additional charges imposed by the driving schools.
“The ceiling fee for the course to get a B2 class (motorcycle) licence is RM350 and for B class (superbike) licence, it is RM900.
“The ceiling fee for the course to get a D class (manual transmission car) licence is RM1,150, while for DA class (automatic transmission) licence, it is RM1,250.
“Driving schools cannot simply impose higher fees, but based on our observation and monitoring, the fees get higher due to additional charges imposed by the schools,” he said in response to a media report on the rising price of driving school fees, which were deemed unreasonable and burdening.
Meanwhile, under the One Community One RTD programme, Malaysian citizens aged 45 and above, as well as Orang Asli aged 21 and above, can obtain the B2 class driving licence for a fee as low as RM180 compared to the fees imposed by driving schools.
