RM100,000 fine, 2-day jail sentence for klia2 runway cheating conviction

SEREMBAN, 1 Nov 2017:

A businessman was sentenced to two days jail and fined RM100,000 after he pleaded guilty yesterday in the sessions court here to two counts of cheating a contractor on a project related to the development of KL International Airport 2 (klia2) six years ago.

Ahmad Omar Noordin, 54, made the plea after the two charges under Section 417 of the Penal Code were read out to him before judge G. Ramesh.

On the first count, Ahmad Omar was charged with cheating Ng Suat Leh, 66, by deceiving her into believing that he would secure the tender for the project – which prompted her to pay RM200,000 using cashier’s order on his wife’s name on 18 Aug 2010.

On the second count, he was charged with cheating the same victim with the same project, which prompted her to deposit another RM5,000 into his wife’s bank account on 3 Sept 2010.

Based on the facts of the case, the project in question was to build fences and runways for klia2, which is being managed by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd.

Ahmad Omar was sentenced to one-day jail and fine of RM50,000 in default 12 months’ jail on each count.
