PM: Fully vaccinated persons can watch movies in cinemas from Thursday, Sept 9

PUTRAJAYA, 7 Sept 2021:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today announced that fully vaccinated persons are allowed to watch movies in cinemas from Thursday, Sept 9.

This leeway, which applies across Malaysia, is subject to the number of patrons filling a maximum 50% capacity of the cinema hall.

In a statement today, Ismail Sabri also said live performances will be allowed with pre-registration for fully vaccinated persons filling a maximum venue capacity of 30%.

These live performances include stage shows, musicals, live bands and comedy acts – with similar lifting of restrictions for museums, art galleries and exhibition halls.

Ismail Sabri further said live performances in hotel lounges and indoor busking are allowed, subject to the same conditions for fully vaccinated persons.

Given the vast economic contribution of the creative arts, he said video recordings and live telecasts can now be conducted by fully vaccinated persons, including having a maximum 30% studio capacity for vaccinated audience.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said motor vehicle driving institutes nationwide are allowed to operate from Sept 9 under the National Recovery Plan.

He said these driving schools must ensure teaching staff and candidates are fully vaccinate, with examinations for driving licences to only begin on Sept 17.

The driving schools can operate at full capacity only if at least 80% of staff had been fully vaccinated, and warned that persons residing in Enhanced Movement Control Order areas, persons under surveillance and persons under quarantine are not allowed to be present.
