Toll concession at Batu Tiga & Sungai Rasau ends in 2038, not 2018

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 Oct 2017:

Pursuant to the announcement made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday during the 2018 Budget announcement, PLUS Malaysia Bhd would like to clarify that based on the 2011 revised concession agreement, toll collection at Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau in Selangor is scheduled to end on 31 Dec 2038.

“The announcement made by the prime minister means that abolishment of toll collection effective 1 Jan 2018 at the Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau toll plazas are realised 20 years ahead of schedule.”

Despite the toll abolishment from Jan 1 next year, the PLUS highway concession remains till end 2038. Hence, the stopping of toll collection at these three checkpoints is taking effect 20 years ahead of schedule.

It said in a statement the 2011 concession agreement – which was restructured following the privatisation of PLUS in the same year – saw toll collection being harmonised on all toll plazas that are under the purview of PLUS; and this includes Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau.

“In addition, no toll increase was implemented by the government and/or PLUS on all its highways since 2005.”

It further said there have been several enquiries on the compensation for PLUS with the abolishment of toll collection at the three locations – Batu Tiga and Sungai Rasau in Selangor and Bukit Kayu Hitam in Kedah.

“As discussions are on-going, we will make the necessary announcement upon receipt of further details from the government.”
