New petrol campaigns from Petronas, Shell

KUALA LUMPUR, 6 March 2021:

Two new petrol variants have been launched by Petronas Dagangan Bhd and Shell Malaysia, with differing marketing strategies to boost sales.

Petronas has launched a three-month long nationwide campaign for its Primax 97, with the Pro-Race Fuel contest offering prizes worth close to RM1 million, including a brand-new condominium and a Mercedes-Benz.

Until May 31, a minimum of RM40 new Petronas Primax 97 with Pro-Race purchase in a single receipt plus three separate transactions within the same month will unlock a badge on the Setel app and those who transact using the app will receive an additional bonus entry. Customers who use other payment methods can participate via app.setel.my.

The grand prize will be a one-bedroom unit at Verdi Condominium, sponsored by UEM Sunrise Bhd, and is worth approximately RM600,000, whilst the first prize winner will take home a Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 AMG Line worth close to RM300,000.

There will also be monthly prizes ranging from one-year complimentary fuel supply worth RM3,000 for three winners, RM100 Setel e-vouchers for 100 winners, and two units of Petronas Syntium 3000 5W-30 lubricants worth RM360 for 20 winners.

In a statement, Petronas claims its latest fuel is enhanced with the world’s first Advanced Dual Friction Modifier, that reduces friction by 25% more than the previous fuel and incorporates a unique fuel and oil interaction formulation that helps increase fuel efficiency, resulting in further mileage and lower carbon emissions.

It said the new fuel also removes 99.9% of deposits from key areas in the engine, unlocking the car’s full potential to achieve effortless power – with a series of blind tests leading to 69% of users concurring the new fuel delivers more power and 66% agreed it is more responsive. In terms of efficiency, 73% of participants confirmed that the new fuel recorded more kilometres per litre, consequently emitting less carbon.

Meanwhile, Shell Malaysia unveiled its latest brand campaign for a refreshed look at its Shell FuelSave 95 proposition. This campaign is anchored on Shell FuelSave 95’s robust capabilities: delivering extra kilometres and partnering customers to make the most out of their everyday journeys.

In a statement, the firm said this Shell FuelSave 95 fuel is designed with Dynaflex technology for extra kilometres as it:

  • reduces friction by up to 90% in critical engine parts to maximise fuel economy
  • prevents 95% of deposit formation for a cleaner engine
  • protects engines from wear, corrosion, and deposit build-up with its ‘Triple Action’ formula.

These key benefits align closely with the findings from a consumer study which revealed that Malaysians chose “better mileage” and “cost-savings” as their top considerations for a quality maingrade fuel. Taking a leaf from the study, Shell Malaysia embarked on the refreshed brand campaign to give Malaysians what they asked for in top quality maingrade fuels: extra kilometers without extra cost.

Shell Malaysia partnered with BonusLink to give customers up to 4X Points whenever they spend a minimum of RM50 to refuel at Shell.
