KUALA LUMPUR, 15 Jan 2020:
Having opened its 30th Malaysian Sports Direct store today, managing director Paul Gibbons said the retail brand’s success here has provided a strong foundation for it to expand regionally – with the first store opening in Singapore come September and plans already afoot for Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand.
“We’re still planning more stores in Malaysia, aiming to have around 40 as lifestyle shopping destinations. We have full confidence in our capability to operate these stores as our Malaysian staff have proven themselves well.”
Gibbons said underpinning this rapid expansion both locally and regionally would be Malaysian staff – revealing the next three Sports Direct stores set to open will be at One Utama Shopping Centre and Tropicana Garden Mall in Petaling jaya plus Sunway Iskandar Big Box Johor.
With another opening just last week in Melaka, today marked the unveiling of the Bangsar Village 3 outlet here offering around 30,000 different products within a retail space of around 18,000 sq ft.
