KOTA KINABALU, 23 Jan 2018:
Taxi drivers who offer e-hailing services have a distinct advantage over normal taxi service operators, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
She said taxi drivers had the option of using their own taxi service system – including the question of fares or use an e-hailing system through the existing e-hailing platforms such as Uber and Grab.
“I have repeatedly told taxi drivers that they have the advantage (with e-hailing). They can also charge their own fares and pick up passengers along the road.
“Secondly, they can drive the taxi as usual and at the same time can use the e-hailing platforms using different fares,” she told reporters after participating in the National Transformation Dialogue 2050 (TN50) programme here yesterday.
Thus, she encouraged taxi drivers in Sabah to ask their friends who were already using e-hailing in other places like in the federal capital about their experience, to find out the advantages of using the e-hailing platform.
She said 600 taxi drivers in the federal capital were already offering e-hailing services using the Uber platform and 2,200 more with Grab.
In fact, said Nancy, taxi drivers had the option of opening their own app and comparing with the existing e-hailing platforms.
She also said a special lab would be set up in Sabah in the near future to discuss the matter and to hear any issues regarding it and finding ways to solve them.
