IRB offices stay open ahead of income tax filing deadline

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 April 2018:

The e-Filing and tax payment service counters at all branches of the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) nationwide will be operational this weekend, beginning April 27.

IRB yesterday said in a statement that for Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Johor – where the weekends fall on Friday and Saturday – the counters would be open on April 27 and 28 while for the other states, the counters would open on April 28 and 29.

The counters will operate from 9am to 5pm, but for Sabah and Sarawak, the operating hours are from 8am to 4pm.

“These service counters operate on weekends to assist taxpayers who do not have Internet facility to submit their Income Tax Return Form (ITRF) using e-Filing.

“As such, the IRB  requests taxpayers to utilise the facilities provided at the branch counters and to ensure their ITFF is  submitted within the set period to avoid penalties.”

Meanwhile, taxpayers who have no income from business sources are given additional time until May 15 to submit their BE or M (Assessment Year 2017) form via e-Filing.

Taxpayers who have income from business sources, on the other hand, are given additional time until July 15 to submit their Form B or M (year of assessment 2017) by e-Filing.

“This extension does not apply to manual submissions of ITFF (paper form) where the deadline remains as April 30 for individuals who have no income from business, or June 30 for individuals with income from business sources,” the IRB said.

Up to 9am yesterday, a total of 1.7499 million ITFFs  have been received from individual taxpayers via e-Filing.

The figure shows an increase of 5.52% over the number received through the same method during the same period last year (1.6583 million).

Enquiries may be made to IRB’s call centre at 1-800-88-5436.
