China’s ARJ21 gets first overseas order from Indonesia’s TransNusa

SHANGHAI, 19 Dec 2022:

Indonesia’s low-cost airline TransNusa became the first foreign company to acquire the first regional passenger aircraft developed by China, the ARJ21, state-owned economic news portal Yicai reported today.

TransNusa has received an ARJ21 with 95 economy-class seats, and the aircraft have a fully loaded air range of between 2,225km (1,383 miles) and 3,700km.

Since its commercialisation in 2016, nearly 100 ARJ21 have been delivered to Chinese airlines, which have used it to connect more than 300 routes and transport some 5.6 million passengers.

The plane’s manufacturer, the state owned Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd, or COMAC, has also developed the C919, expected to start operating in April next year, with which the company intends to compete directly with the US Boeing 737 and the European Airbus A320.
