Barbers, car wash & some shops can reopen nationwide from Aug 16

PUTRAJAYA, 15 Aug 2021:

With vaccination in full swing across Malaysia, some businesses are allowed to resume operations from tomorrow (Aug 16) as long as both employees and customers are fully vaccinated.

In announcing this leeway today, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said a person is considered fully vaccinated once 14 days had passed since the second jab and there’s no high temperature or symptoms of Covid-19.

The businesses allowed to reopen nationwide are:

  • barbers (basic haircuts only);
  • carwash services;
  • electrical and electronic device stores;
  • household and kitchen item stores;
  • furniture stores;
  • sporting item stores;
  • vehicle accessory stores;
  • car sales and distribution centres;
  • morning wet markets and farmers’ markets;
  • apparel, accessories and fashion boutiques; and
  • jewellers.

For states already given some leeway as they’re classified as being under phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan, additional businesses are allowed to reopen:

  • photography items and services;
  • second-hand apparels;
  • florists and nurseries;
  • handicraft and souvenirs;
  • toy stores;
  • carpets and home furnishing;
  • creative arts and supplies;
  • outdoor gear (including camping, fishing, etc);
  • cosmetics, skincare and perfumes; and
