KUALA LUMPUR, 10 July 2017:
If you’re a safe driver, what you get by paying the insurance premium for one-year motor coverage has become a lot more attractive with the local motor policy liberalisation since July 1.
The benefit for no claims translated to you essentially paying almost nothing with the latest package offered by AXA Affin General Insurance Bhd.
Called AXA FlexiDrive, this package comes with special device which you need to install into your car and linked to a smartphone app – total value of these can almost come up to the total premium you’d pay for the one-year policy.
Better yet, the tracking data from the car-installed device will show up on your smartphone app if you’ve been a safe driver – and this will be displayed in ringgit, which can then be set off against the following year’s policy.
The car-installed device is fitted with a digital SIM linked to the DiGi network – data is sent sent once your turn on the ignition until you stop the car.
This tracking data is then run through a proprietary algorithm, thus protecting your privacy, and is displayed in terms of three parameters – mileage travelled, speed and brake usage. All these are combined to be presented in ringgit savings – which can then be used to set against the next year motor policy.
“Customers can save up to 20% after the NCB (no-claim bonus) if the AXA FlexiDrive monthly tracking data shows them to be safe drivers,” said chief executive officer Emmanuel Nivet at the package launch today.
The car-device is available as a free option after signing up for AXA Affin motor insurance, and can be fitted at recommended workshops. The device is then linked to a smartphone app. All Subaru cars in Malaysia now come prefitted with this device and can be activated if the buyer also signs up with AXA Affin.
As to why the insurance firm is offering such an attractive deal for customers, Nivet said it is aimed at promoting safer driving habits at all times – with the app providing valuable feedback if the car is being driven unsafely.
Safer driving also means less claims paid out – and such savings will be channelled back to customers, he added.
The insurer aims to secure 45,000 policyholders for its newly-launched motor insurance policy using telematics technology and innovation over the next 12 to 18 months
The car device also sends alerts to AXA Affin should there be an accident or theft – for faster response to customers.
