SEREMBAN, 22 Oct 2017:
The Natural Resource and Environment Ministry is conducting research on how best to implement the old cars collection system nationwide.
“Currently we have eight million old cars that were disposed off in various places including in parking lots, buildings and roadsides,” Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said yesterday.
He also said the management and disposal of electrical and electronic waste (E-waste) that are not handled properly will produce poison which endanger the public health.
Therefore, the ministry is conducting research with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on the e-waste operation system.
“We see the e-waste as a dangerous thing like the mobile phone, if we dispose it just like that it will produce its own poison,” he said after the opening ceremony of National Environmental Day 2017 here.
Wan Junaidi said after the research with JICA, the policy, laws and a better operation system of e-waste would be conducted by the end of next year.
After the policy, laws and system are implemented, he said the e-waste collection industry would come into existence.
During the event, Negeri Sembilan recorded the highest amount of e-waste collection with 60 tonnes and it was recorded in The Malaysia Book of Records.
