1 month rent exemption for PPR

KUALA LUMPUR, 22 March 2020:

The Housing and Local Government Ministry yesterday announced one-month rent exemption for over 9,000 units of the People’s Housing Project (PPR) under the ministry’s management.

Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said in a statement this is to help ease the burden of those affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO).

The PPRs involved include those in Sentul Murni, Bukit Jalil Transit House, Lembah Subang 1, Lembah Subang 2, Kg Hassan Hulu Selangor, Ladang Siliau Port Dickson, Tok Suboh, Amanjaya, Kota Setar, Sinar Intan 3, Gua Musang and Kota Bahru.

Meanwhile, Zurada also recommended local authorities to use their discretion to grant rent exemption to affected small business owners who had to close shop following the MCO.

She urged local authorities to ensure all supermarkets and sundry shops practise social distancing, provide sanitisers at commonly used entrances and exits as well as to constantly clean the handles of trolleys and baskets to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection.

The ministry, through the local government, will also cooperate with the Social Welfare Department in monitoring and ensuring private senior care centres had sufficient supply of essentials for the duration of the MCO.

Meanwhile, Johor water services operator Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd is offering 50% discount on water consumption charges to customers in the B40 (low-income) group in the state for this month.

Chief executive officer Nor Ifuan Md Nor said the move is part of the company’s effort to assist B40 customers to cope with the situation following the Covid-19 outbreak.

He added Ranhill Saj would also postpone any water cuts for those with outstanding bills starting from now until April 30 to ensure public has continuous water supply.

“Customers who are experiencing water cuts, can contact Ranhill Saj Information Centre at 1-800-88-7474 to check on the account for water supply reconnection,” he said in a statement.

Nor Ifuan said all services through Ranhill SAJ counters will be temporarily closed during the MCO period and customers can pay their bills via online at home.

Customer can contact Ranhill SAJ through email at [email protected] for further enquiries.
