KUALA LUMPUR, 11 Sept 2017:
While Christmas festivities may be over three months away, KL Gateway mall and NGO The Giving Bank want Malaysians to start thinking early about gifts for this year-end celebration.
Specifically, these two entities urge generous Malaysians to help bring some joy to children stuck in hospitals – HKL and HUKM – on Christmas Eve.
This Christmas-themed campaign kicked off yesterday as part of the World Teddy Bear Day activities – being held for the first time in Malaysia – at KL Gateway mall.
The mall has set up a special bin for Malaysians to contribute teddy bears and soft toys by Dec 20 – and these will be distributed to children at the two hospitals on Dec 24 by The Giving Bank.
“We aim to get around 300 teddy bears in this community service campaign,” said Yong Kian Joo, project director at Suez Capital Sdn Bhd – owner-operator of KL Gateway mall.
To mark the internationally-celebrated event, the mall also invited Malaysian ‘Mr Bean’ impresario to entertain around 300 children from four shelter homes and its 10-day campaign features a 12-foot-tall teddy bear in the centre piazza.
The teddy bear campaign is the 24th community outreach activity by The Giving Bank since it was established in December last year, said founder Dr Janson Ang.
“In a short span of nine months, our projects have helped 1,210 beneficiaries and we will continue to grow and help more.”
