MYTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd is extending the RM199 digital television decoder price promotion to Dec 31. The decoder’s original retail price is RM317.
In a statement, MYTV chief executive officer Michael Chan said the extension would enable Malaysians to buy the decoders at an affordable price and enjoy the clear and crisp digital audio and video on myFreeview.
Currently, 4.2 million free decoders are being distributed to eligible households from the lowest income group, consisting of 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) recipients and the distribution is expected to be completed by next year.
Chan said MYTV decoders were compatible with old and new television sets, including cathode ray tube televisions.
“Users only need to connect the decoder to their television set and a working UHF antenna. Both indoor and outdoor antennas can be used, although the outdoor UHF antenna is recommended.”
MYTV had been tasked by the government to handle the migration of the country’s free-to-air broadcasting service from analogue to digital under the National Broadcasting Digitalisation Project.
The decoders can be purchased online at https://shop.mytvbroadcasting.my and 220 electrical outlets across Malaysia, and the full list of participating outlets is available at www.mytvbroadcasting.my.
