OYO will offer free accommodation of up to four nights to students affected by the postponement of registration at higher learning institutions at selected partner hotels in the Klang Valley and Bangi.
Properties near the Klang Valley and Bangi were identified because of the large number of students affected in these areas.
OYO’s offer is in response to many requests on social media and elsewhere from NGOs and students for accommodation within a short radius of higher educational institutions in the area.
Students interested in taking up these rooms can express their interest by completing the Google Form.
OYO will then match the students with the available accommodations. The accommodation in hostels will be given on a first come, first served basis. Student IDs are required at check-in.
Tan Ming Luk, country head, Singapore & Malaysia, OYO Hotels & Homes, said as a provider of essential services and key stakeholder in the tourism and travel industry, OYO has an added responsibility to ensure those who are in need of clean affordable living spaces have access to them.
“We hope that by offering rooms at OYO partner hotels that are within close proximity of higher educational institutions, we can alleviate some of their burden and ensure they have ready access to clean affordable living spaces within close proximity to their schools.
“The safety and well-being of our students is just as important and OYO wanted to do our part to ensure that our students are well taken care of at this challenging time.”
Meanwhile, Bernama reported the Perak state government will give a one-off aid of RM150 to students from the state who are stranded on campus nationwide following the postponement of university student registration for the October session due to the spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in the country.
State Education, Human Capital Development, NGO and Civil Society Committee chairman Razman Zakaria said the aid is aimed at alleviating the burden of the students, especially in purchasing the ticket to return to their hometown and also to top up their prepaid mobile data.
He said the means and dates of distribution of the aid totalling RM500,000 will be finalised at the state executive council’s meeting this Wednesday.
Razman said 1,500 out of the estimated 70,000 Perak-born students at various institutions of higher learning nationwide had so far applied for the aid via www.perak.org/iptcovid.
Also, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri posted on Facebook the Musa’adah Khas Siswa Siri 2 aid for graduates stranded on campuses would be continued by the agency under his ministry.
“The Covid-19 Musa’adah programme will continue as usual nationwide. Many still need financial aid, basic necessities and food during these trying times.
“Since March, we have channelled such aid irrespective of race or religion. The Covid-19 pandemic has truly taught me the meaning of togetherness. I will ensure all assistance reaches its intended targets.”
